On October 25th, 2008 Franklin-Simpson will be hosting it's 1st Annual Wildcat Wilderness Run. We promise excellent awards, and lower entry rates, than any other race held on this particular weekend.
This is an absolutely amazing course, as it is half in open fields, and half in the woods, the terrain is smooth, and the 5k course is 1 big loop, as will the middle school race will also have the privilege of no overlapping. Although many coaches including myself, worry about the safety of athletes in wooded areas, as we often deal with rough rooted areas. This should not be a problem on our course.
The start of this race I can estimate could hold that of 15-20+ teams, and the start being well over 200 yards long, and a 100+ yards wide, which will lead onto a 5 to 6 feet wide gravel or dirt path, with the only exception being a couple tight spots in the deeper wooded section.
It would be of the greatest appreciation, if many of you could swing this on this seasons schedule.
The course map will have spectator friendly areas in the woods, and WILL BE MARKED OFF ADEQUATELY!!

Last Saturday, Juashuanna Kelly, a runner on the girls track team at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C., elected not to compete in the Montgomery Invitational indoor track and field meet in Maryland after meet officials advised her that she would need to replace her undergarment because it violated track and field playing rules published by the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS).
The NFHS issues the following statement regarding this incident.
It's been an amazing year for Florida's Wellington High junior Ashley Brasovan! After finally overcoming the "Footlocker South curse", she not only qualified for Foot Locker Nationals, but won the national championship! With a fearsome and uncharacteristic late race surge, she outkicked the best the nation had to offer including two former national champions. With that performance, along with another stellar year of races including a third cross country state championship, Gatorade announced today that Ashley has been named its first-ever Gatorade Girls National Cross Country Runner of the Year.
Ashley's family threw her a surprise dinner party last night to annonce the news to her, apparently under the guise of her sister's birthday party. Imagine what her reaction must have been when she found out! We have an interview scheduled with Ashley, which will be posted perhaps tonight.
