Guion-Firmin is coming off of gold, silver and bronze showings at the European Athletics Under 23 Championships held last month in Tampere, Finland. The speedster took a gold medal in the women’s 400-meters, fell just short in the 200-meters to take silver, and her relay team took bronze in the 4 x 400 meter relay. IAAF: Day three preview – Moscow 2013 Aug 12, 2013

Day three preview – Moscow 2013 With two days of preliminary rounds already in the bag, on Monday the World Championships in Moscow really hits its stride and delivers six finals in rapid succession during the evening session, as well as the first four events of the Heptathlon. That combined events competition may provide even more intrigue and suspense than the Decathlon did over Saturday and Sunday, because unlike the Decathlon there are few if any clear favourites, and leads may shift frequently and dramatically.(via iaaf.org)

Mens 1,500 Preview: Americans Leo Manzano And Matt Centrowitz Look For Their Second Medals Aug 6, 2013

The men’s 1,500 at the 2012 Olympics turned conventional wisdom on its head. Three Kenyans, defending champion Asbel Kiprop, Silas Kiplagat and Nixon Chepseba, went into London in fine form, with the three fastest times on the year, and none of them finished in the top half of the race. Meanwhile, American Leo Manzano, who was dead last in his last Diamond League race prior to the Olympics, left London with a silver medal wrapped around his neck – America’s first medal in the event at the Olympics in 44 years. Manzano and fellow American teammate Matt Centrowitz, who snagged bronze at the last Worlds in 2011 and was fourth last year, will be hoping that history repeats itself at the 2013 IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Moscow, as both have been struggling recently. The Kenyans, on the other hand, who once again head into London in fine form, certainly don’t want last year’s nightmare to replay itself.by LetsRun.com August 5, 2013 (via www.letsrun.com)
